Ecker Announces $271,461 in Safety Grants for Schools in the District

February 26, 2020

ABBOTTSTOWN – Every school district in the 193rd Legislative District will receive funding through Pennsylvania’s School Safety and Security Grant Program, Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) announced.

“The nearly $275,000 in grants for the district will help keep our children safe when they are at school,” Ecker said. “Unfortunately, Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed budget calls for a major reduction in funding for the program. I will strongly advocate that appropriate funding be included in the final budget for this program.”

The School Safety and Security Grant Program was created by Act 44 of 2018 and aims to provide funding to school districts in order to improve safety measures to further protect students.

The following school districts in the 193rd District received funding through the program:

• Bermudian Springs School District: $35,000.
• Big Spring School District: $40,000.
• Carlisle Area School District: $45,000.
• Conewago Valley School District: $45,000.
• South Middleton School District: $40,000.
• Upper Adams School District: $66,461.

Eligible uses of the funding include hiring school security officers, purchasing security-related technology, completing safety and security assessments, implementing violence prevention curricula, offering counseling services for students, and creating other programs to protect students.
